A 9-5'er turned DIY content creator. When I'm not tearing down walls and ripping up carpets, you can find me designing and building furniture, watching Marvel movies for the 100th time, and cuddling my goofy Australian Shepherd, Tokyo.
I love learning new skills and obsessing over new hobbies that last a week and hosting dinner parties.

Hi, I'm Maggie

Another season of the one room challenge begins and you already know your girl signed up again! Will we finish a room on time, will we write more than one blog post about it? Time will tell, but if you’re a long time reader, you already know the answers. 😉 This season I am going to finish our primary suite remodel, specifically the ensuite and primary bedroom!

The One Room Challenge, also known as the ORC, is an online event that challenges participants to transform a room in their home in just eight weeks, sharing their progress and final reveal with their followers and the online design community. You can follow along with hundreds of DIY’ers and designers as they transform all type of spaces in their home, check out all the Week One entries here!

The Ensuite Remodel Progress

The primary suite remodel started at the beginning of February. We are getting close but still have a long list of things to do. We hired out most of the up front work, and man does it feel nice to have things done fast. During the month of February, we completed the following:

  • New framing for the entire primary suite
  • New electrical for the entire primary suite
  • New plumbing for the en-suite
  • New window in the en-suite
  • Drywall mudding & skim coating

Then in March, I decided it was a great idea to tackle the shower on my own! Starting with a DIY shower pan. I thought I’d be done in a week. Spoiler alert – It took almost the entire month of March! Granted I didn’t work on the shower the whole time, but still, it was a processssss let me tell you. Here is how it currently stands.

What’s Next?

Anyways, here’s the laundry list of things that still need to be completed.

  • Install cement board
  • Waterproof shower
  • Paint walls
  • Install tiles
  • Install countertop
  • Build vanity niches
  • Build toilet niche
  • Wood paneling
  • Paint & Install pocket doors
  • Paint & Install door trim
  • Install shower doors
  • Build custom vanity

Okay now that it’s written out like this I’m a little concerned….. I realized I never shared my moodboard for the ensuite. I’ve been designing this since December of last year, and after a lot of tweaks, I’m finally happy with it.

The Primary Bedroom Remodel Progress

I’ve already shared this on my Instagram so I guess I can take it back but we are also planning on doing the primary bedroom as a part of the ORC!! So far we’ve completed the following:

  • Framing, Electrical, Drywall, Skimcoat
  • Adding trim
  • Painting walls and ceiling
  • Installing new LVP
  • Installing & painting baseboard

You can follow along the progress here, but here’s how the room looks today versus where we started! It’s taken from the same angle, but we changed that whole layout. What a difference right?!

What’s Next?

We are keeping this room minimal. Minimal styling and furnishing, I’m letting the finishes speak for itself! However, we have some fun mini projects in this room. Here’s what else we have planned:

  • Pocket door trim for both walk-in closet and ensuite
  • DIY bed frame using thrifted headboard
  • DIY drapes with designer fabric
  • Thrifted nightstand furniture flip
Moodboard for a fun modern primary bedroom, Moody blue paint for the ceiling and trim, White paint for the walls, King Platform Bed in blue velvet, Printed custom drapes

I think this is doable to complete in the next eight weeks! Who knows maybe I’ll actually finish this challenge on time for the first time! Anyways gotta get to work! Catch ya next week for more progress or you can watch it in real time on my instagram.
