A 9-5'er turned DIY content creator. When I'm not tearing down walls and ripping up carpets, you can find me designing and building furniture, watching Marvel movies for the 100th time, and cuddling my goofy Australian Shepherd, Tokyo.
I love learning new skills and obsessing over new hobbies that last a week and hosting dinner parties.

Hi, I'm Maggie

The Fall 2021 One Room Challenge is here! As you know, the first room we are tackling in the ATX Ranch, is the heart of the home, the kitchen. Over the last few weeks, I’ve been sharing tips on how to design a kitchen yourself, (checkout my Instagram reels if you haven’t seen them!) I covered concepts like the work triangle, discussed the storage and layout, as well as lights, lighting placement, and creating an electrical plan. Using those tips, I designed my very first kitchen. I shared the moodboard previously and a rough idea of what the layout looks like, and now I can share the finalish designs and rendering.

Here’s an updated moodboard. Changed the flooring as well as the cabinet paint color, and will likely change again before we start painting to be honest.
Here is the Fridge/Pantry Wall. I am playing around with the countertop cabinet colors to add a little more contrast. Thinking about some wood tones to add in some warmth to this wall. I’ll be sharing some options on my stories to get your thoughts!
Here is the sink wall. We are moving the sink to the window side and installing smaller windows so that we can fit a countertop there. Here you can see I’m incorporating more warmth using the wood tones. Good thing I’ll have a few more weeks to decide!
Here is the range wall. We’ll be building a custom range hood! I’m so exciting about this project. We will also most likely tile this entire wall and then add some sconces flanking the range hood.
Lastly, we have the peninsula view! There will be two pendants hanging above the peninsula and it will look into the living room with the TV directly on that wall for a perfect view.

I know it feels a little choppy but trust the process! I’ve had this vision in my head for months and have been tweaking it little by little each day. I am so excited to finally be able to bring this to life.

This challenge is 8 weeks long – I am hopeful that I will get 90% there by the end of the eight weeks! This will be my first time tackling a lot of these projects like flooring, tiling, lighting so it should be interesting. Here is what the next eight weeks will look like:

  • Week 1: Demo! Remove Cabinets, Appliances, Flooring, and Soffit
  • Week 2: Electrical, Plumbing, HVAC
  • Week 3: Replace Windows, Install Drywall, Level Flooring
  • Week 4: Build & Install Cabinets, Countertop Templating
  • Week 5: Paint Cabinet Front, Build Custom Cabinets
  • Week 6: Finish Custom Cabinets, Install Tiles
  • Week 7: Install Countertops, Install Appliances
  • Week 8: Install Cabinet Fronts/Drawers, Install Hardware and Light Fixtures

Besides the activities in week 2, everything else with be DIY! Wish me luck! I’ll need it lol. To check out what the other participants in the One Room Challenge are doing, check out this page.

  1. […] Here we go again! The One Room Challenge is kicking off today, and guess who signed up last minute? For those of you unfamiliar with the one room challenge, it’s an eight week challenge where designers and bloggers makeover one room. Eight weeks! This year is ORC’s 10th anniversary, and it will be my 3rd time participating. The first year I participated, I made over my parent’s spare room into an office, it ended up taking me 4 months… The second time I participated was this last fall, where I attempted a full kitchen remodel (spoiler alert) I am still NOT finished. You can view all of the before pictures and renderings here. […]
